Ashanti Region marks Eid ul Adha with calls for peace and harmony

The Ashanti Region has marked the 2024 Eid ul Adha celebration with a call to safeguard peace and harmony in the country, particularly as Ghana heads to the polls in December.

Addressing Muslims at the Kumasi Central Mosque, Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah reiterated the regional security council’s commitment to strengthening security measures as political parties begin active campaigning.

He urged Muslims to emulate the sacrifice of Prophet Abraham, who obeyed Almighty Allah’s command to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, demonstrating complete submission to God’s will.

The Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun, called on government and political actors to ensure a peaceful environment and urged circumspection in their utterances during campaign activities.

He stressed the need for stronger efforts between Muslim and Christian communities, as well as traditional authorities, to end political and ethnic conflicts.

Alhaji Muftawu Issaka Kototo, Pui Naaba of the Ashanti Region, expressed his willingness to ensure youth in Muslim communities embrace peace and harmony, desisting from immorality and violent activities ahead of the December elections.

The celebration featured animal sacrifices, including rams, bulls, and goats, signifying obedience to God.
