Richard Oppentil, the captain of the Ghana Amputee Football Team, the Black Challenge, has promised Ghanaians that Team Ghana will win gold at the 2023 Paralympic Games.
Oppentel, who captained Ghana to victory in the African Nations in CANAF 2021 in Tanzania, spoke to the Communications Bureau of the Ghana Paralympic Committee.
The teams competing for medals in Para-football are Ghana (host), Angola, Cameroon, Egypt, Kenya, Liberia, Morocco, Nigeria, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
The 12 teams competing in the tournament will be placed into three groups of four teams, where each team is set to play the three other teams in a round-robin format.
The tournament will take place from September 3–12 in Accra, Ghana.
The tournament schedule is as follows:
September 3: Opening ceremony and the first match
September 4-6: Group matches
September 7: rest days
September 8: Quarterfinals, 8 Top Teams
September 9: Quarterfinals, 8 teams Consolidation Group
10 September: Semifinals
11 September: Semifinals
12 September: 3rd place play-off and Final
Ghana will be hoping to accumulate as many medals as possible as the Capital City of the nation hosts the first-ever African Paralympic Games, dubbed Accra 2023.
