Buffer Stock Company’s Debt To Suppliers To Be Paid In Full By August 17 – Agric Ministry

The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong has assured the suppliers of the National Buffer Stock Company that their debt will be paid in full next month.

According to the Minister, the Ministry is implementing plans to ensure that the amount owed by the company to the suppliers will be paid by August 17, 2023.

Mr. Bryan Acheampong made this disclosure on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, when he made a statement on the floor of parliament concerning the measures taken to address the challenges confronting the National Buffer Food Buffer Stock Limited.

Addressing the House, the Minister indicated that 50 percent of the indebtedness is expected to be settled by the middle of this week whiles the remaining 50 percent is planned to be paid in full by August 17.

He said, “we are hoping that by mid-week that 50 percent would be sent to suppliers, I have also assured the suppliers that by 17 August, as we commence the payment of the 50 percent, the remaining 50 percent would be paid.”

Reacting to the Minister for Food and Agriculture’s statement, the Member of Parliament for Tolon, Habib Iddrisu said the government needs commendation and not condemnation as the implementation of the free senior high school program has created job opportunities for the food suppliers in order for students to be fed whiles in school. \

He, therefore, urged all the suppliers to remain calm.

The members of the National Food Suppliers Association picketed at NAFCO’s headquarters to press their demand for payment of over two years’ arrears for food supplied to various schools across the country.
