Cable Thief Jailed One Month

Masaudu Fuseini, a 27-year-old electrician, was given a one-month prison sentence for stealing power wires that belonged to the power Company of Ghana Limited in Klo-Agogo in the Eastern Region’s Asesewa District.

Presided over by Asare Anima, the Koforidua Circuit Court A found him guilty and sentenced him to two (2) years in jail or a fine of 1,000 penalty units, or GH¢12,000, if he didn’t pay.

The guilty defendant Fuseini, who was taken into custody on March 25, entered a guilty plea and was arraigned before the court. He was then sent back to jail custody with the order to appear in court for judgment.

Additionally, the court ordered him to replace the cables, which the police estimated to have cost GH¢9,000.

The inmate replaced the cables, the ECG official informed the court.

Prosecutor Elorm Arku Klaye said the court that Fuseini, a resident of Nkurakan in the Asesewa District, was observed by members of a monitoring group formed by the Assembly member for the region, cutting certain wires that belonged to the ECG in various sections of the town.

Following questions they took the police to the locations where he stored the pilfered cables that he had severed from the poles and told them about his actions. He was then brought before the judge.
