COP George Alex Mensah Declares Intention To Contest Bekwai MP Seat

Alex George Mensah, Commissioner of Police (COP), has declared that he will run for the Asante Bekwai parliamentary seat in the 2024 general elections.

He claims that he has long cherished the desire to attend parliament and that the present moment is the perfect opportunity to do so.

COP Mensah who retired from the Ghana Police Service last week told Angel TV on Sunday September 17, 2023 that “I have harbored the intention of going to Parliament for a very long time and I it is time for me to make it manifest.”

Despite having stated in an earlier interview that his family is NPP, he chose not to reveal the party’s ticket.

COP Mensah has held a number of posts within the Ghana Police Service, most recently serving as the Director-General, Technical.

He rose to fame after it was claimed that he and other others were captured on a video conspiring to unseat the present Inspector General of Police (IGP).

He has since appeared before a bipartisan parliamentary ad-hoc committee to defend himself and criticize the IGP for allegedly mismanaging the service and restricting information flow within the service.

Congratulatory messages for him have been flooding in as he departs from the Ghana Police Service.

On October 2, 2023, he is due to meet with the parliamentary committee looking into the tape that was leaked.
