Court adjourns Special Prosecutor case against Charles Bissue to April 17

The High Court’s Human Rights division has postponed the Charles Bissue v. Office of the Special Prosecutor case until April 17, 2024.

The reason for the delay is that Justice Nicholas Abodakpi, who was the last judge overseeing the case, retired, and the case has not yet been assigned to a new judge.

The parties were notified during the Monday, March 11 court hearing that a new judge had not been assigned to the case, following an initial adjournment on February 21 due to similar concerns.

The case centers on Charles Bissue’s judicial review application, which aims to, among other things, void an arrest warrant issued by the Special Prosecutor’s office against him, annul a notice stating that the office wants him, and stop the anti-graft body from making any more arrests while the case is being adjudicated.
