Court frees Gyakye Quayson to campaign ahead of Assin North by-election

An Accra High Court has ruled that  James Gyakye Quayson an embattled  former Member of Parliament can escape court proceedings and campaign ahead of the Assin North by-election scheduled for Tuesday, June 26, 2023.

The decision of the court comes after the Judge Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzu set Friday, June 23, 2023, to rule on an application filed by the accused through his lawyers, seeking a review of an earlier order by the court to hear Gyakye’s criminal trial on a day to day basis.

The court in adjourning the case also said the ruling can be done without the accused in court on Friday.

Lawyers for Gyakye led by Tsatsu Tsikata earlier today, Wednesday, June 21, 2023, filed a supplementary application in support of their motion but was objected to by the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame who told the court, the supplementary application is irrelevant to the matter.

James Quayson is currently on GH¢100,000 bail with one surety for alleged forgery, perjury and knowingly making false declarations in relation to certain alleged offences in the run up to the 2020 Assin North parliamentary election.
