District-level elections rescheduled to Thursday in parts of Ashanti and Eastern regions

The Electoral Commission (EC) has rescheduled the current district level elections, according to an official statement.

The EC stated in a statement on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, that the voting in the two regions’ electoral areas is anticipated to take place on December 21, 2023.

The elections are happening in 6,215 electoral areas across 216 metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies except the Nkoranza North and South in the Bono East Region.

In the upcoming district level elections, more than 66,000 candidates are vying for seats on the unit committee and district assembly.

The announcement attributed the postponement to certain technical difficulties.

“The Commission wishes to inform the general public that due to a number of technical challenges, the district level elections in some electoral areas in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions have been rescheduled to Thursday,
21 December, 2023.”

“We apologise for the inconveniences caused residents of these electoral areas. We assure the residents of the affected areas that the District Level Elections will be held on Thursday, the 21st of December, 2023,” the EC statement said.
