EC announces special voting arrangements for prison inmates, students, and security personnel

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced special voting arrangements for prison inmates, students, and security personnel ahead of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to the EC, prison inmates, students, and security personnel who are already registered voters will be allowed to transfer their votes to their current locations from July 3 to 5, 2024.

Additionally, the EC will conduct a mop-up voter registration exercise for prison inmates who are not yet registered voters from August 1 to 3, 2024.

Political party agents will be allowed to observe the transfer process at EC district offices and on university campuses.

The EC will also compile a special voters list from July 6 to 7, 2024, and security personnel who have been assigned special duties must appear in their uniforms with their voter ID cards to be verified as special voters.

The EC has also announced that it will review all proxy applications that did not go through biometric capture and report to the next IPAC meeting.

Finally, the EC has requested IT technical support from the UNDP to assist with the upcoming elections.
