Expect 3-week of ‘dumsor’ due to gas supply issue – ECG, GRIDCo warn

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have urged Ghanaians to brace for a power crisis due to a reduction in gas supply from Nigeria.

The power suppliers announced in a joint statement issued on Thursday, June 13.

The gas supply reduction, which began on Wednesday, June 12, is expected to last for three weeks, resulting in a significant decrease in power generation capacity in Ghana.

The West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCO) attributed the reduction to maintenance works by a gas supplier in Nigeria.

GRIDCo and ECG warned that the reduction in gas supply could result in load management, leading to power outages across the country.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and wish to assure the public that we are doing everything possible to ensure minimal impact on consumers,” the statement added.

Ghanaians are advised to prepare for the power crisis, which is expected to last for three weeks.
