Explore TVET, STEM options to better your chances of securing a bright future — Afenyo Markin to JHS leavers

Member of Parliament for Efutu Constituency, Alexander Afenyo Markin, has urged the 2023 batch of Junior High School leavers to explore Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as well as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education options.

He said proceeding on that tangent they can acquire the required skills for the 21st-century job market as well as aid a hustle-free placement in secondary schools.

The Junior High School Students who took the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) a few weeks ago are expecting to select their choice of secondary schools for the computerized placement soon.

The placement system has always been fraught with challenges as in many cases students find it difficult to be placed in a secondary school by the computerized system.

But according to experts, these challenges can be reduced when students are guided by their performance as against the category of schools they choose and the kind of programs that are run there.

Students are also urged to explore TVET as well as STEM schools.

Experts believe such schools mostly have vacancies and present students with the requisite skills for the 21st-century job market.

At the 2023 conference organized for JHS leavers within the Efutu Municipality, Member of Parliament for the area Alexander Afenyo Markin charged students to choose courses strictly based on their interests and capabilities.

He announced that his office is putting up some 25 community libraries in the Efutu Municipality to help improve the literacy skills of students.

He has also pledged to facilitate the establishment of three senior high schools in order to improve enrollment.

For his part, the Winneba Divisional Police Commander, ACP Jeffrey Darko admonished the leavers to avoid indulging themselves in any criminal activities as well as be security conscious while they wait for their results.
