Ghana must break free from external aid dependency – Lord Boateng

Renowned member of the UK’s House of Lords, Lord Paul Boateng, has urged Ghana to wean itself off foreign aid, emphasizing that reliance on external assistance hinders progress and significant growth.

Speaking at the 2024 UPSA Annual Leadership Lecture, Lord Boateng attributed Africa’s poverty and economic hardship to the exploitation of its resources by powerful nations and their collaborators.

He expressed concern over a recent social media debate that seemed to value a Dutch passport over a Ghanaian PhD, stressing that leadership and effective governance are crucial to addressing the country’s challenges.

Lord Boateng emphasized the need for equitable access to quality education to empower Ghanaian youth and raise capable future leaders, urging students to embrace leadership opportunities and shape Ghana’s future.
