After garnering the same number of votes as former Energy Minister, Boakye-Agyarko in the just-ended NPP Super Delegates Conference to results in a tie, Francis Addai-Nimoh has clarified that he has no plans to concede defeat to his colleague.
The former Member of Parliament for Mampong in the Ashanti Region and Mr. Boakye Agyarko polled 9 votes each after the Saturday, August 26 super delegates conference of the NPP.
According to the rules of the elections, the party will have to organize a run-off between the two aspirants to determine who takes the 5th position and proceed to the main elections on November 4th.
Speaking on Accra-based TV3 on Monday, Francis Addai-Nimoh noted that he does not intend to step down for Boakye-Agyarko.
He explained that the party already has a mechanism to address such a situation and therefore he is poised to follow through with the processes.
Addai-Nimoh who was responding to a question posed by the host said “not at all, The rules are there, we are following the rules. The guidelines said should there be a tie there shall be a run-off.”
At the end of the voting last Saturday, Vice President Dr. Bawumia swept 629 of the votes (68.15%) followed by Kennedy Agyapong and Alan Kyerematen with 132 votes (14.3%) and 95 votes (10.29%) respectively.
Meanwhile, former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has refuted media reports suggesting he has stepped down for Francis Addai Nimo to contest in the November 4th main elections.
Mr. Agyarko in a statement on Monday, August 28, said there is no iota of truth in the widely circulated news. He stated categorically that he is “ready for the run-off”
“ I have not made any such pronouncement with anyone or any media house, I am ready for the upcoming run-off scheduled for Saturday, 2nd September 2023,” he said in the statement.
