Inflation is the single biggest criminal in every economy — Dr Adu Owusu Sarkodie

Ghanaian Economist Dr. Adu Owusu Sarkodie has stated that inflation is one of the single biggest criminals in every economy.

Dr. Sarkodie made this revelation during Metro TV’s special coverage of the 2023 Mid-Year Budget Review presented by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta on the floor of Parliament on July 31.

The Economics Lecturer at the University of Ghana also registered, “Our effort in making sure government tackles inflation is the single most important thing that is why I suggest that we set up an inflation committee that will help in addressing the world’s biggest criminal in developing economies”.

Dr. Adu Owusu Sarkodie noted that if the government can assemble representatives from selected sectors who contribute highly to the inflation of the economy, it will help to attack the rise and fall of the inflation.

He explained that the experts understand the input of the sectors and without error can identify the shortcomings in measures of sustaining of the sectors.

“Inflation is a big issue and it has dealt as a big blow,” he pointed out.

Ghana’s inflation rate for June has increased marginally to 42.5% from the 42.2% recorded in May 2023.

This means that this is the rate at which prices of goods and services increased in June. It also indicates that in the month of June 2023, the general price level was 42.5 percent higher than in June 2022.
