Legal battle over ownership of Technical University College of Tamale and Ambariya SHS

Dean of Students at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Professor Eliasu Alhassan has warned that the public is not going to sit and watch selfish individuals take away public property.

He made the statement in connection with the legal battle between the Ambariya Islamic Institute and the family of the late Dr. Abubakari Alhassan over the Technical University College of Tamale.

According to the professor, the land was duly acquired by the Ambariya Islamic Institute for education and not to serve the interest of an individual.

The leadership of the Ambariya Islamic Institute has called on the general public to disregard the news that the state and Ambariya Islamic Institute have lost the Court case over the ownership of the Ambariya Senior High School and the Technical University College of Tamale.

The Ambariya Islamic Institute filed a civil case against the late Dr. Abubakari Alhassan, a former consultant to the institution after he claimed ownership of the lands and buildings of the Technical University College of Tamale where the Ambariya Senior High School, a government school is also situated.

It was therefore shocking, when the son of the late Dr. Abubakari Alhassan, Nuhu Abubakari Gushee-Naa, went to the school with an M-16 assault raffle with six loaded magazines and a 40-round pistol on the 15 of December 2023 and was arrested by the Northern Regional police command.

Speaking to Metro News, Dean of Social Sciences at the University for Development Studies, Professor Eliasu Alhassan said Ambariya and the general public will follow the case to its logical conclusion to ensure that the interest of the public is served rather than an individual interest.

In a conversation with the media after the case was adjourned by the Tamale District Court, Abubakr Kassim Shuaib, a teacher at Anbariya Islamic Institute was shocked by the regular attacks on teachers and students of the Ambariya Senior High School.

He also called on the general public to develop interest in the case to ensure justice is served. He also thanked the Ambariya Islamic Institute for not taking the law into their own hands but rather turned to the court.

On his part, the Deputy General Secretary of the Ambariya Islamic Institute, Sheikh Abdul-Sami Issah Iddris, wondered why somebody would tag the school as a terrorist organization even though all that the institution does is to see to the development and well-being of individuals within Ghana and beyond.

The case was however adjourned by the presiding judge of Tamale District Court, Justice Amadu Issifu to the 11th of March 2024 where it will be transferred to the High Court for further prosecution and judgment.

All efforts made to speak to the lawyer of the embattled Nuhu Abubakari Gushee-Naa proved futile.
