Let’s work together to fulfill the goal of breaking the eight—Bawumia

In order to halt the eight-year cycle of power in the general elections of 2024, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged all of his competitors’ supporters to band together.

The call was made by Bawumia in his inauguration speech following his victory on Saturday in the NPP presidential primary.

“Let us join together to achieve the ambition of breaking the 8,” Bawumia said, adding, “That ambition requires the participation of all the aspirants including Kennedy Agyapong who wanted to give me a showdown today.”

Additionally, Dr. Bawumia said he would mobilize the entire party to make sure the opposition NDC stays in opposition. He went on to say that his win proves the NPP is a true inclusive party.

Three other candidates, including Kennedy Agyapong, the vocal MP for Assin Central, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former minister of agriculture, and Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former Mampong MP, were defeated by Dr. Bawumia.

Official results, declared by Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, a deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission, indicated that Dr. Bawumia received 118210 votes, or 61.47% of the total, while Mr. Agyapong, his nearest rival, received 71,996 votes, or 37.41%.
