Continuing his tour of the Ashanti Region, Hon. Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development (MLGDRD), inspected several key project sites in the Obuasi Municipal Assembly under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program (GSCSP).
At his first stop in Obuasi, the Minister visited an Urban Park currently under construction. This project, which has faced delays due to resettlement issues, raised concerns for the Minister. He urged the Municipal Assembly to expedite the resolution of these issues to ensure the timely and successful completion of the park, emphasizing its importance for community recreation and urban development.
Next, Hon. Korsah inspected a recently completed storm drain project. He spoke extensively about the importance of maintaining this infrastructure, highlighting the need for regular upkeep to prevent flooding and ensure the safety and well-being of residents. The Minister stressed that proper maintenance of such projects is crucial to their long-term effectiveness and sustainability.
To conclude his visit in Obuasi, the Minister made a brief stop at a site known as the “prisons yard.” This old structure is earmarked for demolition to make way for the construction of 51 lockable stores as part of the GSCSP. Hon. Korsah reiterated the significance of this project in promoting local commerce and providing secure trading spaces for businesses. He encouraged swift action to clear the site and commence construction, ensuring that the benefits of the program reach the community promptly.
