Mayor of Accra encourages women to embrace virtues in pursuing leadership opportunities

The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Elizabeth Kwatsoe Sackey has encouraged women to embrace virtues as they strive to achieve their goals and contribute meaningfully to the country.

According to her by upholding the values, resilience, determination, solidarity, and integrity women would overcome the obstacles that impede their success in pursuing leadership opportunities.

The first female Mayor of the City of Accra said this at the “A Lady with a Dream Conference,” organised by the UMI Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, under the theme “Unlocking Possibilities: Empowering Women for Excellence and Impact” to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day.

She underscored the significance of these values in navigating the challenges and opportunities inherent for women in leadership roles adding that the public sector like other industries was highly competitive, male-dominated and required hard work and diligence to succeed.

Mayor Sackey urged all women to continue their efforts in championing women’s rights, promoting inclusivity, and breaking down barriers to ensure a more equitable and prosperous future for all.

Head of Mission- Diaspora African Forum, Ambassador Erieka Bennet said challenges were inevitable in life and bound to happen regardless hence the need for ladies to use obstacles as a stepping stone to achieve their aspirations.

“If you come in with an attitude of I know it already if you come in with an attitude nobody can tell me anything, then you need to just go home…. but if you come with the attitude, I am going to take one thing from each of these speakers and apply it to my life, you will make it” she insisted.

She commended the organisers of the conference since it’s aimed at empowering women and urged women to support each other to leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

Founder of UMI Foundation, Marina Lamptey stressed the need for collaboration among women to champion the course for gender parity.

CEO of Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Osafohene Afua Asabea Asare expressed gratitude to the brain behind the “Lady with a Dream” conference adding that her unwavering commitment to honour her father’s memory through the UMI foundation exemplified the transformative power of philanthropy and the enduring legacy of compassion.
