There is no plan to introduce new uniforms for public basic schools – Education Ministry

The Ministry of Education has clarified that there are no plans to introduce new uniforms for public basic schools, contrary to recent media reports.

A statement on Saturday, April 27, 2024, and signed by Spokesperson of the Education Ministry, Kwasi Kwarteng, is aimed to set the record straight and avoid any confusion or misinformation.

“Contrary to the reports in the media about plans by the Education Ministry to introduce New uniforms for Public Basic schools, the Ministry wishes to clarify that there are no such plans in place. Additionally, there is no intention to repaint existing schools”

According to the Ministry, the Education Minister’s previous statement was misinterpreted and referred specifically to the selection of brighter and friendlier colors for the painting of newly constructed 21st Century Model Junior High schools.

The statement explained that the goal of the minister’s latest initiative is to enhance the appearance and physical outlook of these new schools, not to repaint existing ones or alter them in any way.

“The Minister’s statement was with specific reference to the selection of brighter and friendly colors for the painting of the newly constructed 21st Century Model Junior High schools. The aim is to lighten and enhance the appearance and physical outlook of the new schools. It is never a case of repainting existing schools or altering them in anyway”

Furthermore, the statement clarified that the new schools will have the option to choose new colors for their uniforms, but this does not imply a wholesale change of uniforms across all public basic schools in the country.

“The new schools will have the option of choosing new colors for their uniforms and does not imply a wholesale change of uniforms across all public basic schools in the country,” the statement said.

The clarification aims to put to rest any concerns or speculation that may have arisen from the earlier reports, and reassure stakeholders that there are no plans to introduce new uniforms for public basic schools.
