Media being lenient with Akufo-Addo’s gov’t — Benjamin Quarshie

South African Council of Elders Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Benjamin Kofi Quashie, has expressed worry over the deafening silence of the media in Ghana under the President Akufo-Addo regime.

Mr. Quarshie believes the media’s failure to scrutinize and probe the NPP government on the economic hardships, Ghana’s huge debt, corruption issues and what he claims as the total failure of the Akuffo Addo administration is worrying.

He mentions that the media was very proactive in discussing issues during the John Dramani Mahama-led NDC government but that is not the case under this current government.

“The Ghanaian media is sleeping on the Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia led government,” Benjamin Kofi Quashie noted.

Speaking on the Hot Seat program on Original TV, the NDC loyalist said amongst other things, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been reckless with its spending.

According to him, the Akufo-Addo-led government’s inconsiderate decision has ultimately affected every citizen and could have an adverse impact on future generations.

When his views were sought on the NDC flagbearership race, the South African Council of Elders Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Group Chairman of Allied Consortiums, Benjamin Kofi Quashie stated that the quality leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama makes him better fit to lead the NDC into the 2024 general elections.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is expected to hold its presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday, May 13, 2023, to elect a flagbearer and parliamentary candidates for the 2024 elections.

Aside from former President John Dramani Mahama, two other persons including a former Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu, and Dr. Kwabena Duffour, a former Finance Minister. and ex-governor of the Bank of Ghana have picked forms for the presidential contest.
