NPP flagbearer race: Police to wear body cameras at all voting centres

The Ghana Police Service has outlined strategical steps taken to ensure peaceful elections during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries scheduled for November 4, 2023.

In a public notice on Friday, the Police gave its assurance to the general public that sufficient security measures have been put in place to maintain law and order as well as ensure peace and security before, during and after the elections.

As part of measures, adequate Police personnel have been deployed throughout the country to provide security for the elections.

As an additional layer of security, Police bodyworn cameras will also be deployed at all the voting centres.

Body cameras are used by law enforcement to record their interactions with the public, or gather video evidence at crime scenes.

“We would like to assure the public that the Police remain committed to working together with all the stakeholders to guarantee peace, security, law and order during the election,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, prior to the elections, the Police Service held series of stakeholder engagements with the Electoral Commission, the NPP Presidential Election Committee and representatives of the flagbearer hopefuls.

Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been tipped to win Saturday’s presidential primary. His closest contender is Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central. Also in the race for the flagbearership slot are former Minister for Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former Mampong MP Francis Addai-Nimoh.
