NPP Man Urges Bryan Acheampong To Issue A Clarification On His Controversial Comment

In the midst of the controversial comment made by the Minister for Food and Agriculture and MP for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the InterCity State Transport Corporation (STC) Nana Akomea is calling on his colleague to issue a clarification on his comment.

The comment of Mr. Bryan Acheampong who was addressing some party supporters at Mpraeso during a Unity Walk in the heat of the 2023 Easter Festivities has generated some backlash against him.

The Minister in his address emphasized that the NPP will not hand over power to the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). He said “NDC party will collapse. If the NDC dares to use threats, violence and foolishness in the 2024 election, we will let them know we have the men. We will show them that we have the men. We have the men! It will never happen that we, the NPP, will stand on a platform to hand over power to the NDC. It will never happen! We will make sure NPP remains in government at all cost”.

Following the comment, the NDC has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), to arrest the Minister for what they describe as a “reckless and treasonable” comment.

But reacting to the comment by his colleague NPP man, Nana Akomea opined that the utterances of the MP for Abetifi have been misconstrued and misrepresented for reasons best known to the proponents.

According to Nana Akomea, he is convinced that Mr. Bryan Acheampong’s comment does not mean the NPP won’t hand over power to NDC if the Electoral Commission declares the opposition party winners after the general elections.

He, therefore, called on the Minister for Food and Agriculture to clarify his comments in order to calm tensions.

“When we are speaking in public as politicians we must ensure that our comments are not misrepresented . . . I don’t think Bryan means when the Electoral Commission declares NDC winners NPP will say they won’t hand over. It’s not possible . . . but the way he said it, someone might think so  . . . ” Nana Akomea explained on Accra-based Peace FM.

He further called on Bryan Acheampong to “issue a clarification and state what exactly he meant”.
