One feared dead in Assemblies building collapse

One person is feared dead whilst four others have sustained injuries following the collapse of a private health facility at Assemblies, a suburb of Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

According to eyewitnesses, the building which is an extension of the health facility and under construction collapsed during a downpour on Tuesday afternoon.

The Kasoa Municipal Fire Command which provided rescue services says they have begun investigations into the collapse, however, preliminary observations have suggested poor materials and construction as a cause of the collapse.

“Several factors could have led to the collapse of the building,” adding: “The area itself looks like a waterlog land and, so, I am sure it is one of the factors,” DO3 Mercel Kwami Avadu told the media.

Meanwhile, five buildings have collapsed in the Greater Accra Region in the last three months.
