Parliament resumes today

The third meeting of the first session of the Eighth Parliament will commence Tuesday, October 25, 2022, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban Bagbin. The House was adjourned without a fixed date after Speaker Bagbin deferred his decision on Dome Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo.

The House when reconvenes will consider a number of bills laid before Parliament and refer to various committees for report and consideration. Top among them is the Promotion of Proper Human Sexuality and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021, seeking to criminalise homosexuality, the Criminal Offences Amendment Bill, 2021, and the Office of the Special Prosecutor Amendment Bill, 2021.

Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak has accused Kwame Anyimadu Antwi the Chairman of the committee tasked to consider the bill of deliberately delaying the anti-gay bill ahead of Tuesday.

Speaker Alban Bagbin is expected to deliver a ruling on Dome Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo after she failed to appear before the Privileges Committee of Parliament. Executive Director for African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Rasheed Draman has been speaking ahead of the speaker’s ruling.

Dr. Rasheed Draman also wants MPs to focus on how the Ghanaian economy can be fixed.
