Parliament swears in Gyakye Quayson as MP for Assin North

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has officially sworn in Mr. James Gyakye Quayson as the Member of Parliament for Assin North after winning the by-election held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

Mr. Quayson’s election triumph follows a May 17 Supreme Court judgment that declared his December 2020 election unconstitutional and barred him from holding the seat.

He did, however, successfully return his position in the by-election and is now the representative of Assin North.

During the swearing-in ceremony, an NDC delegation including former President, John Dramani Mahama were spotted in Parliament.

Their presence signifies the importance of the swearing-in ceremony is to the umbrella family.

The NDC Members of Parliament were wearing white attire, signifying victory and the importance of the swearing-in ceremony.

In the Assin North by-election, James Gyakye Quayson secured 57.56 percent of the total votes cast.

Charles Opoku of the NPP, earned 42.15 percent of the vote, while Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), received just 0.29 percent of the vote.
