Sex for Grades: Sunyani Technical University sets committee to probe allegations

The management of the Sunyani Technical University has set up a committee to investigate the alleged sex for grade allegations leveled against some lecturers of the school by a former Student Representative Council ( SRC) President.

Mr. Owusu Agyekum accused some lecturers of abusing their positions and exchanging grades for sexual favours and same allegations were repeated on several news portals.

In a statement available to Metro TV, the university’s management said it “treats this allegation with utmost seriousness and swiftly set up a committee to investigate the matter and come up with findings and recommendations for necessary action.”

The Sunyani Technical University management noted that it has a strict- zero tolerance policy on all forms of sexual harassment or misconduct and the management would not tolerate any violations of the existing policies on such practices.

“We therefore assure all our stakeholders that any member of the university that would be found culpable in these allegations will be severely sanctioned in line with the provision of the sexual harassment policy and the disciplinary code of the University, ” the statement added.

Furthermore, the management assured the public that the outcome of the investigations would be made public and recommendations and implementation as appropriate.
