Trade Minister to lay import restrictions bill in Parliament today

The Minister of Trade and Industry, K.T Hammond, is expected to lay before Parliament today the Export and Import Regulations 2023.

The legislative instrument, which aims to limit the entry of 22 certain strategic goods into the nation, including sugar, rice, chicken, and tripe, was postponed by Parliament on Tuesday.

This was the third time that Parliament had rejected the policy document.

The purpose of the action was to provide the Sector Minister a chance to discuss certain changes made to the legislative instrument with the Minority caucus.

The government is trying to slow down the nation’s import surge, and Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has asked Parliament to back the laying of the LI.
