Traditional leaders play vital role in the development of a nation — Eastern Regional Minister

The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong has said that traditional leaders in the nation had greatly contributed their quota to the development of the nation in diverse ways.

He said this at the end-of-year general meeting of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, on the 18th of December 2023, at the Conference Hall of the House, Koforidua, to deliberate and review the performances of the House so far and to plan for the way forward.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong highlighted that, undoubtedly, traditional leadership was an integral aspect of Ghanaian culture which goes hand-in-hand with local governance, which seeks to enhance peace, security, and development in the various districts and communities, to the contribution to the national development.

Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong indicated that traditional leaders needed to receive training and capacity building to be able to match up with the complexities of traditional governance.

He continued that, traditional leadership issues, land administration, conflict management, records, and documentation management were among the necessary training he advocated the traditional leaders could have.

The Regional Minister made a passionate appeal to the House to step up efforts at resolving chieftaincy disputes so that, communities in the Region would be more developed.

The President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Nene Sackitey II of the Krobo Traditional Area, indicated that the House had done collectively well in the discharge of its administrative functions.

He commended the House for the achievements and urged them not to relent in their efforts to ensure that, they continued to contribute their quota to the development of the Region.

Nene Sackitey emphasized the need for the Chiefs to desist from chieftaincy disputes and stand together so that more achievements would be realized in the coming years.

The general meeting was attended by all the Chiefs and Queen Mothers in the Eastern Region.

Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong donated gifts to the Chiefs to wish them a Merry Christmas.
