Two bodies recovered in Odumase galamsey pit

The bodies of two male adults have been recovered after being caught in an illegal mining trench at Odumase near Konongo in the Ashanti Region’s Asante Akim Central Municipality.

According to previous accounts, three miners were trapped, however one of them managed to escape while the other two died in the tragedy.

Officials from the Municipality’s National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) verified that the hole caved in while the unlicensed miners were inside looking for gold resources.

The local community members and an excavator operator both assisted the NADMO officials in recovering the dead. The bodies were successfully rescued from the mine hole thanks to their combined efforts.

The bodies have been taken to the mortuary for additional inspection and identification, according to Jones Osei Asamoah, the NADMO Director for Asante Akim Central Municipality.
