United Cadres condemns ‘arrogant’ remarks by Energy Ministry

The United Cadres Front (UCF) has expressed dismay over what they perceive as the arrogant and insolent behavior exhibited by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy.

This followed a response given by the energy minister to inquiries regarding the current state of power outages, known as “dumsor” or “dumsisie.”

During the inauguration of the NPP campaign team in the Ashanti Region over the weekend, Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh challenged individuals advocating for the issuance of a load-shedding timetable by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to publish their own proposed schedules.

But United Cadres Front said Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s dismissal of the need for a timetable for load shedding smacks of arrogance and disrespect to Ghanaians.

“Members of the United Cadres Front (UCF) have observed in disbelief the arrogant and insolent posture of the Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, in a reply to the Media’s quest for a time table for load shedding for the current state of dumsor or dumsisie”

The UCF emphasized the need for a load-shedding timetable as such a plan will help the public effectively manage their lives and safeguard their properties amidst the ongoing power crisis.

“To the Minister, restoring full power supply is a process. But a process can not be achieved without a planned structure, that is a timetable, towards its execution. The timetable is a needed request to regulate the available power supply for the general public to also plan their lives as well as protect their properties”

The UCF further criticized the Energy Minister’s comparison to past administrations, labeling it as “infantile” and urging for a more proactive approach to address the pressing issue at hand.

It also pointed out a pattern of arrogance and disregard for public sentiment in Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s conduct, citing it as a recurring theme throughout his tenure in the Nana Addo-Bawumia administration.

“Dr. Opoku Prempeh has been one Minister in the Nana Addo-Bawumia administration who has persistently been arrogant, and consistently shown insolence in his dealings with the public. His disregard for the sensibilities of the people is highly reprehensible, and therefore, condemnable”

“Subsequent to this raises doubts about speculations running in the public space that Dr. Opoku Prempeh is being considered for the position of a Running Mate to the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party for the 2024 General Elections,” the statement concluded.
