Founder and Leader of the Ghana Union Movement, Reverend Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly called Osofo Kyiri  Abosom,has voiced opposition to the growing commercialization of politics, declaring that it is “destroying our democracy.”

Osofo Kyiri Abosom bemoaned the fact that politicians are suffering due to the expectation from voters that they will pay money in exchange for political support.

” Just look at the bye-elections, I saw some constituents demanding money before they will vote which is a bad habit we need to stop because it will not help our democracy,”Osofo Kyiri Abosom  told Adwoa Nhyira on Accra-based Original FM 91.9.

He expressed hope that a time will come when citizens will understand the harm caused by demanding money in exchange for votes, and that politians can serve without financial burdens.

“We need to be intentional about letting citizens know that this act is crippling and destroying our democracy,” he added.
