We must all support Green Ghana Day – Chief of Staff

In order to meet Ghana’s aim of planting 20 million trees through the Green Ghana project, the Chief of Staff has emphasized the significance of increased collaboration and broader stakeholder engagement.

Given the size of the goal, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts and participation from numerous stakeholders for its implementation.

Mrs. Osei-Opare thinks that by incorporating important parties like students, Corporate Ghana, traditional authority, and religious organizations, there will be a sense of shared responsibility that will encourage a sense of ownership among all facets of Ghanaian society in relation to reaching the 20 million target.

The Chief of Staff said while partaking in the Green Ghana Day event at Achiaman Junior High School in the Ga West Municipal District Assembly on Friday, June 9, 2023.

She said the Green Ghana Day can only be “accomplished through a concerted effort and greater stakeholder involvement.”

The decline of Ghana’s natural forest cover prompted the creation of the Green Ghana Initiative.

Ghana lost 101,000 hectares of natural forest in 2021, producing almost 62.9 million metric tons of CO2 emissions, according to Global Forest Watch.

The effort strives to address the risks that deforestation poses to the environment and public health.

Madam Frema Opare said it is more crucial than ever for every Ghanaian to take a position and participate in nationwide tree-planting initiatives.

“This would help reduce the serious health and environmental threats posed by deforestation to our citizens,” she said.
