Why I don’t like birthday celebrations – Kwesi Pratt opens up

Celebrated Ghanaian Journalist, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., has divulged what influenced his decision to detest celebrating his birthdays.

His reason has got nothing to do with religious beliefs or any of such affiliations.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, Mr. Pratt, who turned 70 years old last week and was treated to a star-studded birthday party recounted his childhood years of battling sickness during his birthdays.

“For a very long time, I used to fall sick every birthday. Every birthday I used to fall very very (sic) sick. So, why people enjoy birthdays, I, for a very long time never enjoyed birthdays because I used to fall very very (sic) sick,” he narrated.

Kwesi Pratt also narrated how his attempt to evade his sixtieth birthday a decade ago failed and he eventually had to grace the special event to celebrate his life.

“When I was sixty there was a conspiracy in the family to organize a surprise party and I think that at the last minute, somebody hinted me and I refused to go. I didn’t go.”

“Finally, somewhere in the night, I was virtually kidnapped by Lt. Col. Gbevlo Lartey (Rtd.) and taken to the place,” he told Dr. Randy Abbey.

On August 9, 2023, veteran journalist, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, marked his 70th birthday, and people from all walks of life gathered in Accra to celebrate his life and contribution to the development of Ghana.
