Women’s Division One: FC Epiphany Crowned Division One Group A Champions

Epiphany Warriors FC have been crowned champions of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association (GARFA) Women’s Division One Group A after recording a 3-0 win over Ideal Ladies on the final day of the league season.

The team finished the season with an unbeaten record, winning 17 consecutive games after a disappointing 1-1 draw against GRA Ladies on match day one at the La McDan Park, scoring a whopping 88 goals and conceding just 4 in 18 games.

Clinching the title with 3 games to spare, Epiphany Warriors booked a place in the GARFA Super Champions Cup against Jonina Ladies FC (Winners of the GARFA women’s division one Group B) on the 2nd of July, 2023, at the Accra Sports Stadium, a fixture which sees which of the two teams will be crowned Champions of the GARFA Women’s Division One League.

The team will also get the chance to play in the Women’s Division One Southern Zone middle league, where they face off against winners of other regional leagues for a spot in next season’s Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.

The players and the technical staff of the team were in jubilant moods after the final whistle, pouring out their emotions and ecstatic cheers after clinching the title and been awarded with the trophy.

Speaking in an interview after the coronation, coach for the club, George Watson said, “I can’t describe how it feels like to lead this team to victory. We’ve worked so hard for this day and thanks to God we’ve been able to witness it.” He added, “I’d like to thank my technical staff, players and most importantly the chairman of the club, Mr. Prosper Ntoso. They’ve all done tremendously well”.

Captain for the club, Gifty Acheampong also lauded the heroics of her teammates for their incredible achievements. She added, “I’m overjoyed to witness such a day. I’m proud to lead this team to win the Division One Women’s League. We aren’t done yet, there’s still the Super Champions and the Middle League to play. We have to work extra hard now.”
