Yendi Primary: EC official did no wrong pocketing ballot papers belonging to Habibata Zakari – Nana B

National Youth Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, affectionately called Nana B, says the Electoral Commission official who pocketed ballot papers during the parliamentary primaries in Yendi did no wrong with such an act.

Nana B, who is also a lawyer, said the pocketing did not invalidate the outcome of the elections.

Violence erupted at the voting center in Yendi disrupting the counting process.

The poll was between incumbent Yendi MP, Farouk Aliu Mahama and Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah.

One of the Electoral Commission officials supervising the poll was accused of destroying the ballots of Hajia Abibata leading to the disruption of the counting process.

Speaking to Moro Awudu on Metro TV’s Good Afternoon Ghana, the National Organizer of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye emphasized on why the behavior of the electoral officer cannot be used as grounds to dispute the outcome of the elections.

“What’s wrong with it?” He quizzed “Maybe, his hands were full. He is working on something.”

“The fact that we already know the total number of votes cast, we already know the rejected ballot. What will be the intention of anybody to say? And why would the electoral officer himself?” he argued.

“As I speak today, I have not seen any ballot that was invalidated by the said officer. Was it captured in the EC’s report? Did you read any?” Nana B added.

Meanwhile, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will decide on the Yendi primary on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
