Akosombo Dam spillage leaves over 2,000 residents of Afram Plains South homeless

25 communities in Kwahu Afram Plains South have been affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage and over 2,000 residents are homeless.

Residents of Kwahu Afram Plains South who are located alongside River Afram have been affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage.

According to the residents, 25 communities have been affected especially those residing at Ekye Amanfrom.

Speaking to the affected people, they bitterly stressed how the spillage had rendered them homeless and needed support but all the attention had been drawn to Volta Region and therefore appealed for the government’s support.

They further indicated that this challenge started about a month ago and they reported it to their DCE, Evans Kyei Ntiri, and NADMO but still nothing good has been done and it’s only their MP Joseph Appiah Boateng who rented rooms for some of the affected ones.

The Presiding Member for Afram Plains South who also doubles as the Assembly Member for Ekye Amanfrom, Theophilus Avor, said the Akosombo Dam spillage has affected most of his community members and further appealed to the government and non-governmental organization for support.

He further charged landlords who have taken the opportunity to increase rent to desist from such behavior and finally thanked the Member of Parliament for the area, Joseph Appiah Boateng for his donation to some of the victims.
