Assin North by-election: Fake police officer arrested at Assin Bereku

The Ghana Police Service have arrested a man posing to be a police officer during the Assin North by-election on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

He was arrested at Assin Bereku.

The man, identified as Isaac Mensah, is alleged to have been seen around Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agaypong and Charles Opoku, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Assin North Constituency.

It is not immediately known his mission at the area where tensions are high due to the by-election.

Metro TV has reached out to the Ghana Police Service to request comment.

The Electoral Commission (EC) scheduled the by-election for June 27 following the nullification of the 2020 parliamentary election won by Mr. Gyakye Quayson.

The Supreme Court ordered Parliament to expunge Mr Quayson’s name from its records after it found that he held dual citizenship at the time of filing his nomination forms.

Three candidates are vying for the seat: James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).
