Assin North By-Election: Voting For A Prison Candidate Will Derail Your Dev’t – Akufo-Addo To Constituents

As the constituents of Assin North in the Central Region gear up for the controversial by-election, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuf0-Addo has warned the voters against voting for the NDC candidate, James Gyakye Quayson.

According to President Akufo-Addo, voting for James Gyakye Quayson will spell doom for the development of the Assin North Constituency.

Speaking at a rally in the constituency on Sunday, the president explained that the people of Assin North do not deserve a Member of Parliament whose work will be interfered by numerous case processes.

He further explained that there is a likelihood that Mr. Gyakye Quayson might end up in jail since he is on the same path as Mr. Adamu Daramani Sakande, a former NPP MP who was jailed over a similar citizenship case during the administration of former President Mahama.

He therefore admonished the people of Assin North against voting for such a person which might derail development in the area.

“It is crucial for us to exercise our voting rights responsibly. We should not support or vote for individuals who are entangled in legal controversies that may eventually lead them to face imprisonment,” President Akufo-Addo admonished.

He added that “we need someone who can come and help you. Someone who will work in your interest. I heard Gyakye Quayson say that even in prison, you people will vote for him, can he work from jail? We vote for people to go to Parliament to work, how can he work from prison so don’t vote for someone who will end up in jail, vote for someone who can work to improve your lives.”

The President went on to pitch the NPP candidate, Charles Opoku as the best person to represent the constituency since he is without any legal battles.

“We won’t vote for anybody who will become useless. Vote for someone without issues who is Charles Opoku. Please don’t repeat that mistake. Vote for someone who is coming to work not someone whose work will be impeded by court cases,” he stated.
