Bawku: Increasing military harassment prompts Traditional Council to issue statement

There is an outrage in Bawku as residents complain of torture and physical harassment in the dawn-to-dusk curfew.

Residents told Metro News that some military personnel invaded their homes and physically abused them during curfew hours.

A distressed resident narrated how soldiers forced-opened the main entrance to his house and forced his household into their rooms.

Another person who spoke to Metro News stated that some military personnel asked his household to switch off all lights in the house and go to bed.

“It is 6:30 pm and soldiers have forced-opened the gate and entered the house and all they are doing is to ask us to go inside our rooms and sleep. We are already inside our house, we have not broken any curfew rule, yet we are being subjected to physical abuse”.

Military personnel in Bawku have been in the news for bad reasons following the killing of three young men in the area.

Meanwhile, the Kusaug Traditional Council has issued a statement condemning recent killings in the area.

The Council distanced itself from the recent barbaric activities and called for proactive measures.

Security experts have called on the government to review the deployment of the military to Bawku, as that is not a solution to the Bawku conflict.
