Upper East Minister calls for effective collaboration between political heads and technocrats

The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu has reiterated appeals to the technical staff of the Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) to effectively collaborate with their political heads to complete ongoing projects to the benefit of constituents.

He, however, advised them to exhibit professionalism devoid of politics and work to achieve their core mandate to justify the salaries they earned.

“You are paid every month to do a particular job and if you have not done it, you have no moral right to go to the Bank for your salary,” he said.

Yakubu repeated the appeal at a day’s dissemination meeting of the 2023 first and second quarter monitoring reports and work plan for the second trench of the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Projects in Bolgatanga.

The Regional Minister stressed the need for the staff to work and ensure Upper East became the best administrative Region in the country.

He said the success of the MDAs would be to the benefit of all residents in the respective MDAs and not the Regional Minister or the Political head alone.

“I think we have to work together to complete the projects on schedule. These are good projects to serve our constituents, especially projects under the LED components of SOCO,” he noted.

The Chief Director of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), Alhaji Abubakari Inusah, expressed concern about the poor performance of the MDAs in the region and demanded to know what accounted for the “abysmal performance” yearly.

“Is it that resources are not being made available to the DPCU to undertake activities or is lack of capacity on the part of technical officers?” he asked.

Alhaji Inusah said the RCC would continue to intensify its core mandate to coordinate, monitor, and evaluate activities of the MDAs as enshrined in the Local Governance Act, Act 936 -2016.
