Cecilia Dapaah sued by late brother’s wife over ‘stolen’ $800,000 belonging to him

Irene Cansah, the wife of former Sanitation and Water Houses Minister, Cecilia Dapaah’s late brother has asked her lawyer to file a lawsuit against her to recover an alleged $800,000, which allegedly belongs to her late husband.

Madam Irene Cansah says she was unaware of the money left behind by her late husband in the procession of the embattled politician.

In defending the former Sanitation Minister who was at the receiving end of harsh criticisms following news that some funds have been missing from her home, seasoned journalist Paul Adom-Otchere, stated that out of the alleged $1 million allegedly stolen by her housemaids, $800,000 belonged to Cecilia Dapaah’s late brother, Nana Akwasi Essan II, a former Asante chief who died in 2022.

The host of Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV argued that the public’s outrage over the missing money was misplaced, as only $200,000 of the stolen amount belonged to Cecilia Dapaah herself. Adom-Otchere further clarified that the additional 300,000 euros missing did not belong to the Minister but to her husband, Daniel Osei Kufour.

His defense sparked public discourse.

In response to the defense, the widow of Cecilia Dapaah’s late brother is threatening to take legal action against her to recover the money.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Sompa FM, Madam Irene Cansah disclosed that she has informed her lawyer and necessary steps are being taken to recover the money in Cecilia Dapaah’s possession.

According to her, the estate left behind by her late husband is yet to be shared.

“The money issue you are talking about I know nothing about it. I heard it in the media just like anyone else.”

“Legally, if indeed there is any such money available it has to be given to me.”

“My lawyer has assured me he will file a case”
