Cecilia Dapaah’s trial: OSP applies for removal of judge

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has written to the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, requesting the removal of Edward Twum as the presiding Judge on the confirmation application against the seizure and freezing of assets of former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

The petition follows a judgment by the court on Wednesday in which it granted an application by lawyers of Ms Dapaah to move the hearing date of the confirmation from October 18 to October 12.

The OSP filed an application for the court to approve his decision to seize some 2.8 million cedis and 590,000 dollars found in the home of Cecilia Dapaah and the freezing of her bank accounts on suspicion of being tainted properties.

However, the OSP lawyers have questioned the fairness of the presiding judge Justice Edward Twum hearing the application.

According to the lawyers, the judge has a prejudice against the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

Hence the OSP’s decision to petition the Chief Justice for Justice Edward Twum to be removed from the case.
