Confusion over speech attributed to Vice President at Samanpiid Festival

A disclaimer issued after a speech attributed to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the Samanpiid Festival has sparked a raging controversy among Ghanaians.

On December 28, 2023, the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs attended the annual Samanpiid Festival by the chiefs and people of the Kusaug Traditional Area in Bawku where he delivered a speech on behalf of the Vice President.

The minister indicated that Dr. Bawumia was supposed to be part of the celebration but had to attend to other vital calls in abroad and had delegated him to deliver his message.

He presented Ghc50,000.00 cash in the name of the Vice President.

Among the vital issues in that speech, the minister mentioned that the Bawku Chieftaincy matter has been settled at the Supreme Court and the National House of Chiefs as well as the Regional House of Chiefs are all aware of it so therefore nothing can be done to change that verdict.

A day later, the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs issued a statement indicating that the statement that was delivered at the Samanpiid grounds was written and delivered by the Minister, Asamoah Boateng, himself and that the Vice President does not have anything to do with it.

This development has left many wondering what caused the sudden turn of events and who is telling the truth.
