Court throws out Gyakye Quayson’s contempt case against KT Hammond

Kobina Tahir Hammond, a Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, was found not guilty of contempt by an Accra High Court.

Lawyers for Assin North Member of Parliament James Gyakye Quayson hauled the Trades and Industry Minister before court for contempt.

In a media interview, K.T. Hammond is accused of saying things that could might jeopardize Quayson’s criminal case. Quayson is charged with having two different citizenships.

On Thursday, October 19, 2023, the court dismissed the case, noting that the judge had not found sufficient evidence to support a conviction.

The Judge also decided that Hammond’s statements had no intention of undermining Quayson’s criminal prosecution.
