District Level elections Underway

Everything is in place for the District Level Elections (DLEs), which are slated for this Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

There are more than 66,000 candidates running in the local elections for assembly and unit committee seats.

According to figures provided by the Electoral Commission, there are 66,257 candidates in total—18,755 candidates for assembly members and 47,502 candidates for unit committee members.

216 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) comprise 6,215 electoral areas that make up the electoral battlefield.

Dr. Sereboe Quarcoo, the EC’s Director of Electoral Services, told Citi News that plans are well underway to guarantee the polls are successfully organized.

He gave his word that all necessary arrangements had been made to guarantee that there would be an adequate supply of voting materials at every polling place today.

“With the exception of ballot papers, all the materials are there, and when we are going, we don’t go with partial delivery; we go with full delivery, so we are not expecting to have shortages. All things being equal, in case there are shortages, the district office will respond to such shortages,” he added.
