ECOWAS Bank President Urges Business Leaders to Prepare for Future Challenges

In a compelling keynote address at the Nobel Business International School’s (NIBS) Future-Ready Leadership Summit on March 13, 2024, Dr George Agyekum Donkor, the President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), urged business leaders to strategically position themselves for potential future challenges.

Drawing from the recent global events that have rocked the business world, Dr Donkor highlighted the cascading effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, and various domestic shocks that have tested the resilience of businesses worldwide. He pointed out the resultant supply chain disruptions and inflation, which have led to significant food and energy price hikes, paralleled only by the crisis of 2008.

In his address, Dr Donkor stressed the importance of a dual approach to future-readiness: anticipating potential scenarios and embedding flexibility within organizational structures to enable swift adaptation. He also advocated for businesses to bolster their compliance with Environmental Social Governance (ESG) standards and to leverage technology to streamline operations.

“It requires a transformational leader to navigate an organization towards future-readiness,” Dr Donkor remarked, emphasizing the proactive mindset needed to face imminent and long-term challenges.

The summit, hosted by NIBS, an African Doctoral Institution renowned for its accredited degree programs in collaboration with SBS Swiss Business School and IPAG Business School, convened esteemed scholars, government officials, and business magnates. The event focused on fostering impactful businesses and contributing to the continent’s development.
