Food suppliers unhappy with NAFCo’s part payment of arrears

The National Food Suppliers Association have registered their displeasure at the part payment of debt owed them by the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCo).

According to the Food Suppliers, the amount paid is insufficient and is not enough to settle the debts they owe to their creditors.

The Agriculture Minister had agreed to refund the debt on July 17, but this promise was not kept.

On Thursday, July 20, another assurance was made that the debt would be paid off. However, the food suppliers who submitted their paperwork for payment argue that the funds offered to them are insufficient because only half of the 2022 obligation was paid.

Additionally, the Minister of Food and Agriculture informed the food suppliers that they would get 50% of the unpaid amounts owed to them by the end of Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

The Minister claims that on Monday, July 17, 2023, a cash totaling $100 million—or 50% of the total debt of 203 million—was already sent to the accounts of the food suppliers. It’s anticipated that the remaining sum would eventually be reimbursed to their accounts.
