NPP’s Steering C’tee throws out petition to centralise Special Delegates Conference

The National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed a petition by 9 out of the 10 presidential aspirants to hold the elections at a centralised location.

Following a closed door emergency meeting on Thursday, July 20, 2023, the Steering Committee of the governing party, found the reasons for the joint petition not to be valid enough.

They, therefore, held that the National Congress by the Special Electoral College scheduled for Saturday, August 26 should be held in the regional offices.

Nine out of the 10 presidential hopefuls seeking to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2024 election petitioned the party leadership to centralise the August 26th special delegates Congress on Thursday, July 20.

According to the presidential hopefuls, plans to hold the election on a regional basis will not sit well with the party.

All the candidates are on the same page except Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

In the petition, they noted that decentralising an election of only 900 voters will not be a wise decision.

They further urged the party to allow all 900 delegates to converge at one venue for the polls.
