Galilea residents cry over abandoned roads

Lack of motorable roads is affecting the living condition of residents of Galilea in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra region.

It’s become difficult for the people, especially pregnant women and the critically ill to easily access medical care while businesses are also being affected.

Commuting on roads within and to other adjoining communities such as Tomefa, Nurses Quarters and Ngleshie Amanfro is not easy. The roads are bumpy and dusty in the dry season and becomes muddy, slippery and bumpy during the rains.

Even though portions of the roads within the electoral area were awarded on contract only a few kilometers were partly completed.

The rest of the project has however remained abandoned for over three years at the displeasure of the residents.

Persons who operate businesses such as shops in the area have complains about their wares getting dusty. Sometimes, they are forced to sell their wares at reduced prices to satisfy reluctant customers and that is causing them huge losses.

Commercial transport operators say changing of vehicular parts as well as frequenting the workshop has become a daily routine in order to put their vehicles in shape and their business becoming less lucrative. Most times, they are unable to respond to emergency situations on time.

Not too long ago, a critically ill resident of the area died as a result of delay in conveying him to the hospital. A unit committee member of the area who is now seeking to become Assembly Member of the electoral area, Christopher Lomotey Sewu is not happy about the state of roads in the area. He’s pressing on the Ga South Municipal Assembly to work towards the resumption of the construction project in order to bring comfort to residents.
