Ghanaian artist attempts Guinness World Record for longest paint-a-thon

Mubarikatu Issaka, a 29-year-old artist from Akwatia, is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest individual painting marathon.

Issaka, known as “Artist Barry,” has already completed over 90 hours of continuous painting and aims to reach 130 hours within six days.

She is permitted a five-minute break for every hour of activity or a 20-minute break when accumulated for four hours.

The current record holder, Chancellor Ahaghotu from Nigeria, set the record in January with a 100-hour painting marathon.

Call for support

Twum Berima, a local businessman, has expressed concern over the lack of support from the community and has called on government officials and residents to come out and support Issaka in her record-breaking attempt.

Issaka’s sister, Barisa Isaaka, said the artist received approval for the attempt in December but had to postpone due to lack of preparation. She is currently receiving sponsorship from Twum Barima, individuals, and other philanthropists.

The attempt is taking place at the Xtreme Pub in Akwatia, and Issaka is expected to complete the record-breaking attempt on Tuesday.
